When we first started in the wine business, marketing and networking were the buzz words of the industry. We were often asked for a “story” to tell about our business, especially for overseas clients, and every time, my partner Steve would say “We don’t have one yet”. I love this about him. This uncompromising honesty. He was right, we didn’t have a story then, they are happening now, some 9 years later. I am so grateful for the time we took to grow them. These are small stories, tiny vignettes, but they are authentic, and that means everything to me.

We are in the middle of vintage at the moment and yesterday we picked the first crop of shiraz grapes from our 100 year old vines in McLaren Flat. After the pick, at the end of a long 40 degree day, Steve bought the eclectic crew of 60 people a beer each and they burst into a round of applause; so grateful for such a small offering. Our teenage son watched on in amazement. “Dad” he exclaimed “Are they really clapping for just one beer?”
