“A friend is what the heart needs all the time” Henry Van Dyke

My beautiful friend Alena came to stay on the weekend. We met last year on the BHB retreat, which considering it was 7 days long, fostered more kindred friendships than I ever presumed possible. Not only is Alena an incredible singer and songwriter (website here), she also writes amazing musicals such as The Lockout AND she juggles these creative successes along side being a partner in one of the biggest law firms in the world. I asked her how she manages all of these pursuits and she told me that she averages four hours sleep every night…and still looks fresh and magnificent. Far out. We had such an enriching chat about life and I have reflected upon our conversation so much this week. I sent a couple of bottles of my old friend Barb home with her as she and Alena have bonded…a friendship that makes perfect sense to me.
